Island training for Nailsea Air Cadets

News Release (11/08/09)

Air Cadets from Nailsea took to the skies on a flight quite unlike their usual flying experiences on Tuesday, (11 August) when they swapped their twin seat Grob Tutor training aircraft for the comfort of a 50-seat Air Southwest regional aircraft, to fly to Jersey for a week of adventure.

Eight members of the 2467 Squadron, who are aged between 13 and 18 years, will spend the next week on the island experiencing a wide range of extreme sports, designed to develop their leadership and team building skills.

Commanding officer Flight Lieutenant John Radford said: “The cadets are very excited about the week ahead of them.  This will be our third trip to Jersey and I never fail to be amazed by how much the cadets gain from their time on the island.  Our base is only six miles from Bristol Airport and the flights with Air Southwest mean that we can be settling into the squadron facilities of the Jersey Air Cadets, within an hour of taking off from our local airport so that we can make the most of every minute of our trip.”

Mike Coombes, Commercial Director of Air Southwest added:  “Our flights bring the beautiful island of Jersey along with four other destinations in the far Southwest and North of England within easy reach of Bristol and are perfect for short breaks, a family holidays, or in the case of the Air Cadets a week of extreme activities.  For groups as well as individual travellers, the ability to save hours of travelling and great value fares from just £29 each way including all taxes, charges and baggage makes flying direct from Bristol with Air Southwest a winning formula.”

Air Southwest offers fast and frequent flights from Bristol to Manchester, Leeds Bradford, Newquay, Plymouth and Jersey. Check flight times and fares at airsouthwest.com

Nailsea’s 2467 Squadron currently has 28 Air Cadets and a recruitment drive will start at the end of August to recruit new members.  For further information call 01275 856503 or email 2467@aircadets.org.
