Bristol Airport appoints Chris Ware as Head of Security
Bristol Airport has appointed Chris Ware to the new position of Head of Security. Ware joins the Airport team after 30 years’ service with Avon and Somerset Police, for which he was recently awarded the prestigious Queen’s Police Medal.
In his new role, Ware will be responsible for the Airport’s security regime, including the efficiency of the search process through which all passengers pass when flying from the terminal. He will also act as the Airport’s liaison with the Department for Transport’s Security and Contingencies team and local police.
A self-confessed aviation enthusiast, Ware was able to bring this interest to bear in a number of specialist roles with Avon and Somerset Police, including the establishment of the Western Counties Air Operation Unit. This culminated with a role as uniform Inspector at Bristol Airport in 2006, before a promotion to Chief Inspector led to a job overseeing counter-terrorism strategy for the South West. A further promotion to Superintendent followed, after which Ware took on the new role of Director of Intelligence for the force.
Other career highlights include responsibility for off-site planning for the Glastonbury Festival, and organising the Queen’s Jubilee visit to Somerset in 2002. He was also involved in planning the visit of HRH The Princess Royal to open Bristol Airport’s terminal building in March 2000.
Ware, 51, is originally from Shepton Mallet. He lives near Weston-super-Mare with his wife and two teenage daughters.
Paul Davies, Operations Director at Bristol Airport, said:
“Security is clearly of paramount importance, and Chris brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in this field to his new role. At the same time, his skills in dealing with the public will be essential in ensuring that security at the Airport is always delivered in a professional and efficient way.”
Chris Ware said:
“This is an exciting new challenge for me. I have enjoyed working with Bristol Airport in various capacities during my career in the police force, and I am delighted to now be part of the team.”
