News Release (10/02/12)
Local residents are now eligible for a discount on the Flyer Express bus service between Bristol Airport and Bristol city centre. The concessionary fare scheme is one of the commitments the Airport agreed to provide in connection with its planning permission for development over the next decade. Half price travel on the Flyer is now available to anyone permanently resident at a property in the postcode areas BS40, BS48 and BS49.
The Flyer stops at Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Bus Station as well as locations across the city centre. Over 600,000 passengers used the service last year following improvements to the timetable and the replacement of the fleet with 12 new vehicles. The Flyer now operates every ten minutes during the day, and vehicles feature free Wi-fi and power points for charging laptops and mobile phones. The increased frequency of services also improves access to onward connections on coach and rail networks. Train tickets can be purchased from the Fast Ticket machine in the terminal building.
Under the new community scheme those eligible will qualify for a discount of at least 50 per cent on adult single and return Flyer fares. Children between the ages of five and fifteen accompanying an adult member will be eligible for a similar discount off the child fare.
Alan Davies, Planning and Environment Director at Bristol Airport, said:
“The Bristol Airport Flyer is part of our commitment to encourage the use of public transport to the Airport, and its popularity continues to grow amongst staff and passengers. We are delighted to make this quick and convenient service available to local residents at a discounted rate.”
Eligible residents should complete the application form available on the Bristol Airport web site (www.bristolairport.co.uk) and return it along with proof of address. They will then be issued with a Travel Pass which must be shown, along with photographic identification, in order to claim the discounted fare when using the Flyer.
