Dr Razvan Constantinescu, the Honorary Consul of Romania in Bristol, was on board the first flight to depart from Bristol and passengers enjoyed complimentary cakes decorated with Romanian flags at check-in.

Peter Downes, Bristol Airport’s Head of Aviation, said:

“Today is a special day as we celebrate the inaugural flight to Bucharest from Bristol Airport. This is the first ever scheduled service to Romania from the South West & Wales region, reflecting our continued growth at Bristol and our mission to offer greater travel possibilities to our passengers. This latest launch brings the number of European capital cities we now serve to 16, further opening up the region for inbound tourism opportunities.”

“The route is already proving extremely popular with customers, with plans in place to double frequency to twice-weekly from April 2017 as part of Ryanair’s biggest ever summer schedule from Bristol Airport.”

Ryanair’s Robin Kiely said:

“We are pleased to launch our new route from Bristol to Bucharest, offering a great city break destination for customers in the South West. The good news is that this route will continue into the summer 2017 season, and with even lower fares this winter, there’s never been a better time to book a low fares getaway from Bristol.”

Dr Razvan Constantinescu, the Honorary Consul of Romania, Bristol said:

“The launch of the first direct Bristol-Romania flight confirms yet again the strength of the economic, business, tourism and academic links between Romania and the South West of England. Despite the current political context, this elaborate network of economic and social relationships between the South West and Romania will continue to grow, thus bringing long-lasting and far-reaching benefits to both areas. Like Britain, Romania is also open for business and extends a warm welcome to our friends and partners in the South West of England and beyond.”
