Rail Upgrade Works Summer/Autumn 2019

Network Rail will be carrying out a series of upgrade works during 2019.

Great Western Railway passengers travelling to/from the airport by train are advised to check their journey before they travel as it may be affected. 

What's happening?

July to October – electrification of line to Cardiff Central

Buses replace trains between Cardiff Central and Bristol Parkway on the weekend of 27/28 July, and between Bridgend and Bristol Parkway on the weekend of 14/15 September.

On Sunday 25 August, buses replace trains between Cardiff Central and Bristol Parkway until 14:00, when buses will replace trains between Newport and Bristol Parkway instead.  In addition, buses replace trains between Cardiff Central and Bristol Parkway until 14:00 only on Sundays 8, 22 & 29 September and Sundays 13 & 20 October.

September/October – track renewals south of Bristol

Buses replace trains between Bristol Temple Meads, Weston-super-Mare/Taunton on the weekend of 28/29 September, as well as Sundays 6 and 13 October.

October/November – signal renewals north of Bristol

Buses replace trains between Newport and Bristol Temple Meads/Swindon, Bristol Temple Meads and Gloucester and also between Bristol Temple Meads and Severn Beach on the weekend of 26/27 October.

Buses replace trains between Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Parkway/Severn Beach on Sunday 3 November.
