Bristol Airport's nominated
charity of the year
In recent years Bristol Airport’s staff, business partners and customers have raised in excess of £210,000 for a variety of charities, which includes; Weston Hospicecare, The Jessie May Trust, The Cots for Tots Appeal, The Tsusami, NSPCC (Bristol Teacher Training project), Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, Springboard Opportunity Group, Children's Hospice South West and Children in Need.
Bristol Airport is keen to support local charitable causes and each year employees nominate a charity, which they electively fundraise for throughout the year. For 2013 the charity selected by staff is Cots for Tots Appeal, the charity raises funds to support the world-class work of the Special Care Baby Unit at St Michael’s Hospital, Bristol, saving the lives of the sickest, most premature babies from Bristol, Bath, the South West of England and South Wales. The Cots for Tots Appeal funds life saving equipment and the running costs of Cots for Tots House which provides free accommodation for parents whose babies are being treated in the Special Care Baby Unit.
As more and more babies born as early as 23 weeks are surviving, the unit is experiencing unprecedented demand for pioneering care in specialist cots with life-saving equipment. It is the only Special Care Baby Unit in Bristol, the South West Region and South Wales able to offer the highest level of care, treatment and surgery to the most premature and critically-ill babies through its links with the Bristol Children’s Hospital. Any baby born in Bristol, the South West, and in South Wales requiring life-saving surgery is automatically referred to the unit.
With continual advancements in medical technology, the Cots for Tots Appeal also ensures that the Special Care Baby Unit stays at the forefront of neonatal care by providing new pioneering and life saving equipment to enable the unit to provide the highest standard of care for the region’s sickest babies.
