Recycle

BIA’s strategy for waste involves a commitment to work with our staff and business partners to reduce the amount of waste produced and to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill. Waste is generated from the following sources at the airport:

  • Aircraft operations and maintenance
  • Terminal, eg restaurants and shops
  • Offices and other ancillary accommodation
  • Engineering activities
  • Construction

BIA has been working with Envolve, a Government sponsored organisation set up to assist local businesses with waste management. Training sessions have been held attended by key businesses on the airport. To date the emphasis has been on promoting recycling, particularly glass, cardboard and paper. 2007/08 initiatives include improvements to increase waste recycling throughout the business with the addition of new recycle bins for polythene, plastic bottles and tin cans. A Waste Forum group has also been established and includes BIA staff and business partners.

Bristol International are also consultees on the introduction of "Site Waste Management Plans for the Construction Industry" currently being promoted by Defra.
