Busy summer expected at Bristol Airport

News Release (26/05/11)

Terminal
Bristol Airport is reminding travellers to allow enough time to check in and get through security this summer.

Over 20,000 passengers per day will pass through the terminal at the height of the holiday season and research carried out by YouGov on behalf of Bristol Airport has revealed that missing their flight remains a real worry for many (32 per cent of those surveyed).

However, fewer South West holiday-makers (24 per cent) have concerns about missing flights than those in London (34 per cent) and the West Midlands (39 per cent).

As well as allowing sufficient time to get to the Airport, passengers should aim to arrive two hours in advance of their departure time in order to complete essential processes such as check-in, security and boarding.

Passengers are also being warned to check where off-site car parks are situated before booking, with some unlicensed operators switching locations – sometimes at short notice - as a result of enforcement by planning officials. This can result in longer than expected journey times to the Airport once passengers have dropped off their vehicles.

Shaun Browne, Aviation Director at Bristol Airport, said:

“The Airport will be very busy this summer as families look to guarantee some sunshine following the disappointment of last year’s ‘barbecue summer’. Although we will be making all efforts to provide a great start to passengers’ summer holidays, check-in, security search and boarding can take time - particularly for families and large groups. By allowing plenty of time for their journey to the Airport and arriving at least two hours ahead of the scheduled departure time, passengers can help us keep queues to a minimum.”

A mobile app is now available from Bristol Airport enabling passengers to stay up to date with any changes in their flight status while on the move.
