News Release (29/09/11)
Over 150 international students will arrive at Bristol Airport over the weekend (Friday 30 September until Sunday 2 October) before commencing courses at the University of Bristol.
The students will travel from 10 different countries on services operated by Air France, KLM, Ryanair, easyJet and Brussels Airlines, with several making long haul connections via Amsterdam and Paris. They will be met at the airport by a welcoming committee from the University and transported to their accommodation by mini-bus.
Jacqui Mills, Public Relations Manager at Bristol Airport, said:
“Bristol Airport is delighted to welcome the students to the South West. This is the third year the airport has helped by providing assistance to the University Ambassadors meeting the new students. For many, this will be a first visit to the UK, so we wanted to make sure their first impressions were positive.”
“By flying into Bristol Airport rather than an airport outside the region, the students will reduce their onward journey, meaning they have more time to relax in their new surroundings before getting down to some serious studying!”
Ri'Anna Stueber, Senior International Adviser at the University of Bristol, said:
“The University of Bristol is delighted to be working with Bristol Airport to help coordinate the arrival of our international students. We greatly appreciate the co-operation and enthusiasm Bristol Airport has demonstrated in helping us to provide such a warm welcome.”
Bristol Airport flies to over 100 destinations across 29 countries, with 11 capital cities being served by direct services.
Each overseas visitor using the airport is currently worth £410 to the South West economy. With the airport’s proposed development plans this will result in £1.1 billion of additional visitor spending in the region by 2019/20.
