Everything you need to know about travelling with your assistance dog

Bristol Airport and its airline partners welcome assistance dogs. Here’s some helpful advice to ensure a smooth and comfortable journey for you and your animal.

What is an assistance dog?

Assistance dogs have been specially trained to assist a person with a disability or medical condition. They are officially recognised by Assistance Dogs International (ADI) or International Guide Dog Federation and must meet certain criteria before they can fly namely:

  • Be individually trained in specific tasks to assist you with your disability or medical condition.
  • Had behavioural training and show appropriate behaviour in public and onboard an aircraft.
  • Wear an identifying jacket/harness.
  • Always remain under your control.
  • Have all official documentation in place for leaving and entering the United Kingdom.
