News Release (03/01/08)
The New Year takes off in style for the Grand Appeal with the announcement of a new partnership between the charity, which raises funds for Bristol Children's Hospital, and Bristol International Airport.
As the airport's chosen ‘Charity of the Year’ for 2008, the Grand Appeal is looking forward to organising a host of fundraising activities to appeal to airport staff, business partners and passengers alike.
The Grand Appeal, spearheaded by the Oscar-winning plasticine characters Wallace & Gromit, was chosen by the Airport following a staff vote for the most popular local fundraising cause.
Jacqui Mills, Customer Experience Manager at Bristol International comments; “The visit of Wallace & Gromit will help get our fundraising efforts off to a flying start and we hope to raise thousands of pounds for a cause that is close to all of our hearts.”
Money raised through the partnership will go towards the Appeal's recently launched 'Cots for Tots' campaign to provide life-saving cots, incubators and vital medical equipment for premature or critically-ill newborn babies being treated at the Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Nicola Masters, director of the Grand Appeal, welcomes the new initiative; "We are thrilled to have been chosen by Bristol International Airport as its charity of the year. As Wallace would say, it's a 'cracking' way to start the New Year and we aim to raise as much money as possible for NICU - indeed, you could say the sky's the limit!"
Fundraising activities planned for the year include regular collections of money, including foreign currency, within the terminal, staff fundraisers such as skydives and Grand Appeal lottery, exclusive events around key calendar moments and guest appearances by Wallace & Gromit themselves.
