Bristol Airport continues progress towards Net Zero with renewed Level 4+ Airport Carbon Accreditation

Bristol Airport has renewed its Level 4+ Airport Carbon Accreditation, recognising its continued progress in reducing carbon emissions, working with partners across its value chain and developing a clear pathway towards Net Zero operations.

The Airport has been recognised for its ongoing commitment to reducing carbon emissions across its operations and working collaboratively with partners to accelerate decarbonisation.

Bristol Airport was the first UK regional airport to achieve the Level 4+ Airport Carbon Accreditation in 2023. The independent accreditation recognises the Airport’s continued progress in tackling carbon emissions and its commitment to working with partners across its value chain to support the transition to a lower-carbon future.

As part of its sustainability strategy, Bristol Airport has set a target to achieve Net Zero airport operations by 2030 and is continuing to invest in projects to reduce emissions from its buildings, vehicles and wider operations. Recent initiatives include major terminal decarbonisation works, alongside the Airport’s Aviation Carbon Transition (ACT) Programme, which supports innovative projects designed to reduce Scope 3 emissions associated with aviation and transport.

This summer, Bristol Airport took delivery of a new state-of-the-art Energy Centre, representing a significant investment in the Airport’s sustainability and decarbonisation plans. The facility will provide more efficient and resilient energy infrastructure, helping to reduce carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency across the Airport.

Clare Hennessey, Director of Planning and Sustainability, said:

“We are proud to maintain our position at the forefront of airport sustainability and to renew our Level 4+ Airport Carbon Accreditation. Reaching Level 4+ demonstrates the progress we are making to reduce emissions from our own operations, while recognising that meaningful decarbonisation requires collaboration across the aviation industry and our wider region.

“We know there is still more to do. Our focus now is on continuing to reduce emissions, investing in new technologies and working with our partners to support the transition towards a more sustainable aviation industry.

“Renewing a Level 4+ Airport Carbon Accreditation is important and a recognition of our progress towards being Net Zero carbon operations by 2030. Our Sustainability Strategy brings together its work to reduce emissions, support the development of zero-emission flight, enhance the local environment and contribute to the region’s economy.”
