Doing Business with Bristol Airport

Procurement at Bristol Airport focuses on delivering through engagement with competent and capable supply chain partners.

Procurement & Development

We’re a major driver for the local and regional economy, as well as supporting the wider UK economy and in undertaking its procurement, the Airport seeks to ensure it is socially, economically, environmentally responsible and ensure that our supply chain support the Airport’s values.

The Procurement Team’s vision is to be a trusted business partner who supports the effective and efficient delivery of procurement activities through strategic methodologies and best practice approaches, ensuring we support the business in delivering its growth plans in a safe, sustainable way whilst maintaining a fit for purpose supply chain.

When working at Bristol Airport there are certain requirements that need to be met. This page aims to provide the relevant information needed to start and continue collaborating with us successfully.

Contract Opportunities with Us

All tender opportunities are now managed using an e-sourcing system, called In-Tend. The system is fully web-based and it advertises tender opportunities that the Airport publishes. The system allows tender documents to be transferred securely, from pre-qualification questionnaires through to our Contracts.

Whether you are interested in a current opportunity or not, it is worthwhile registering your Company on In-Tend so that you can take advantage of future business opportunities.

Driving Sustainable Partnerships: Our Supply Chain Charter

Bristol Airport is a dynamic and growing organisation, home to over 50 on-site businesses. Beyond this, our extensive supply chain includes a wide range of other organisations, such as production companies, service providers, and manufacturers.

Aligned with our Sustainability Charter, we not only measure our direct emissions - those directly attributable to Bristol Airport - but also capture data on our indirect emissions, known as Scope 3 emissions. These encompass emissions generated by our supply chain and account for an astounding 99% of the airport's total carbon footprint.

Whilst we have embraced a leading approach to achieving net zero operations by 2030 and are dedicated to supporting the development of zero-emissions flights, our Sustainability Strategy has highlighted opportunities to enhance efforts to reduce emissions and waste across our supply chain.

The Airport has therefore made the following commitment in its 2023-2028 Sustainability Strategy to “develop a supplier code of conduct and scorecard to actively track and encourage our value chain to adopt more sustainable practices".

Contractors Requirements

Prior to starting any work at Bristol airport, it is important for all contractors to obtain the necessary accreditations and complete the required training.  Please see the information below and click on the drop downs for more information and links that you will need to follow:

Inductions

It is a mandatory requirement that all individual contractors who are required to attend site have completed a Bristol Airport Contractors Induction via Airdat, each induction will cost £25.00.

The induction is completed via a cloud-based platform, therefore making it easily accessible via mobile devices working within a Wi-Fi zone.

Permit Applications

To work onsite at Bristol Airport, contractors are required to have Alcumus Safe Contractor approval. This accreditation is necessary to obtain a permit for operations at the airport.

ID Gateway

All contractors requiring access to airside areas must apply for a Security Pass – this can be permanent or temporary. Contractors can create an account with ID Gateway to issue passes for individuals conducting work on their behalf.

We have identified three types of passes at Bristol Airport. Please see the list below:

Temporary passes require valid ID (passport or photographic driver's license). The contractor MUST inform the company representative AT LEAST 48 hours in advance of the works commencing and describe the work being undertaken.

Temporary/visitor passes are issued only when the contractor has a valid escort who holds a valid Full ID Pass. Visitor's passes need to be returned at the end of each day/shift to the Security Operations desk.

NOTE: Tools/Equipment Airside – Please be aware that if you need to bring tools/equipment airside, we need to include this information when applying for your security pass.

The contractor MUST always ensure that all tools and equipment are either:

  • In the possession of the operatives OR
  • Securely locked away when in airside locations Tools include any liquids, cleaning fluids, solvents, and all bulky and/or sharp objects that could be used as a weapon at any time.

If the contractor leaves any tools/equipment unattended in airside locations, then the operative (or escort) will be removed from the site, and their pass will be cancelled with immediate effect.

Personal Protective Equipment (‘PPE’)

Contractors, sub-contractors, consultants, and internal Bristol Airport visiting employees are required to wear enhanced PPE on all construction projects to ensure safety and compliance with airport regulations. Further information is provided here to help specify the standard scope of PPE provision expected on Bristol Airport construction sites.

Fire Marshal Training

All individuals working onsite at Bristol Airport must know what to do in the event of an outbreak of a fire, and the evacuation of airport buildings.

Fire Marshal Training must be completed by all Business Partner employees before an airport pass will be issued.

Once the training has been completed and the associated assessment passed, you will need to provide the email confirmation to the ID Unit.

Escorting Requirements

If you have not obtained a full Bristol Airport security pass suitable for external Airside access for your entire team, then you will need to apply for a temporary pass(es).

You and your Airport Project Manager MUST ensure suitable passes and escorts have been arranged in advance of works starting. Please, contact Airside Operations for further details on escorting.

Waste Disposal

No contractors are permitted to dispose of waste using Bristol Airport Containers.

Any company wishing to dispose of waste for which facilities are not supplied by Bristol Airport must make provision for the legal collection and disposal of that waste themselves.

Any companies requiring hiring a skip for use airside must agree the location in advance of the skip being delivered, with the Airside Operations and Safety Manager (AOSM).

All airside skips must be fitted with secure lids or covers, to ensure that waste does not escape from the skip and inadvertently become FOD or attracting wildlife. Exceptions may apply for skips containing heavy items, subject to prior approval from the AOSM. Similarly, it is recommended that lockable skips are hired, to prevent any unauthorised users.

All companies transferring waste off site shall be accountable for correctly classifying and consigning their waste according to the UK legislated Duty of Care Waste Regulations.

For further information refer to document ref: BRS-OSI-ENV-002.
