National Express reports continued growth on Bristol Airport services
Created: 10th Feb 2026National Express has reported strong passenger growth on its Bristol Airport services at the start of 2026, with passenger journeys increasing by 13% year-on-year in January.
The continued growth follows a surge during the final quarter of 2025, as more passengers chose to travel by coach for their journeys to and from the airport.
Between September and December 2025 the UK’s largest scheduled coach operator saw a 23% increase in passenger journeys to and from Bristol Airport compared with the same period in 2024. On some routes serving the airport, growth reached as high as 28%.
National Express currently operates frequent services between Bristol Airport and destinations including Birmingham, Cardiff, Newport, Cheltenham and Plymouth, alongside many other towns and cities across the UK.
Javier Martinez Prieto, Managing Director for National Express UK Coach, said:
“Passengers are clearly rethinking how they get to and from the airport, and coach travel continues to offer an affordable and reliable alternative to car and rail travel.
“Growing demand for our coach services supports more sustainable journeys, helping to reduce congestion on the road network while supporting Bristol’s visitor economy by improving access for passengers from across the UK and abroad.
“Alongside our valued partner operators including Edwards Coaches we run the UK’s largest coach network, connecting hundreds of destinations nationwide, with airport services that drop passengers right at the terminal door for convenience, removing the need to worry about the hassle or cost of airport parking or drop-off fees.”
Rob Henley, Transport Planning Manager at Bristol Airport, said:
“We welcome the continued growth in passengers choosing coach travel to and from Bristol Airport, following the opening of our new Public Transport Interchange in July 2025. The £60m project has transformed our customers’ experience travelling by bus and coach to the Airport with modernised facilities and increased capacity.
“Where possible we encourage customers to use public transport, which is why we are pleased to be able to offer coach services as far south as Devon and as far north as Birmingham as well as connecting South Wales.
“Sustainable travel is key to reducing indirect emissions from passenger transport to and from the Airport, and National Express services provide passengers across the region with greater choice when planning their journeys.”
National Express’ modern coach services link hundreds of destinations across the country, including all major UK airports, with onboard features including leather reclining seats, free Wi-Fi on selected services, USB power sockets and a generous luggage allowance of up to 20kg.
